When Something’s Not Right

"Something’s not right." When you hear those words, what comes to mind?

Perhaps it’s a feeling— a pit in your stomach, a tingling in your hands, a racing heart.

Perhaps it’s a situation, a time when you sensed that a circumstance wasn’t supportive or safe, but you couldn’t put your finger on exactly why yet.

This sense, these “ick” feelings, are the earliest clues that your well-being or the well-being of someone in your community is at risk.

Now I have a question for you.

When you imagine that “somethings not right” feeling or situation, can you also imagine— or even remember— trusting that sense and giving voice to your feelings and concerns?

Your answer to this question can help you assess your ability to protect your own and others’ well-being. This is an essential skill, and one that I help folks to develop in my Community Care Framework.

Imagine a work community where every person feels safe and valued, where every voice is heard. When each of us are in touch with our human dignity and self-trust, and when we can use our voices to speak the truth, we can transform communities and create spaces that support well-being for all people.

This is the world I want to help create. Will you join me?
